Are there ethical rules that a medical interpreter in Tagalog should follow? Yes. One of the most comprehensive and well written materials on the role of medical interpreters and the code of ethics is contained in "Medical Interpreting and Cultural Competency" from Interpreter Services, Office of Community & Patient Relations, Stanford Hospital & Clinics (Feb. 1998, 1st Edition). It discusses the interpreter's role when translating, when working with the patient, when interacting with health provider, among others. It also discusses skills development, cultural awareness, crisis intervention, and other relevant analyses written by interpreters and physicians alike.
